Hello,
For about 3 weeks now, I have been unable to access athena
through the dial-up line. I had been using it regularly before with
at least 2 different modems and have not changed any of the settings, so
I am confident that it is not a modem problem. (I also tried it with
a third modem, just to be sure. Also, all 3 modems work fine with dialups
to other computers.)
Here is how the problem manifests itself: I do get an answer
and a tone. Also, the "hash" following the tone that indicates that
data transmission has started. One of my modems says "connect" but then does
nothing, even when I hit CR a few times. Another modem does not connect.
After a few seconds, the athena PAD disconnects me. On one of the
modems that has a speaker that I can leave on, I hear an odd "siren-like"
tone superimposed on the "hash."
I hope all this information helps, and that this problem can be
solved quickly, since I frequently need to use the dialup especially
during the summer when I am not on campus.
Thanks for your help.
