My workstation (DECstation 5000/25 'mozart' in E40-353) has crashed fatally
twice in 24 hours, once yesterday at about lunchtime, and then again today at
around the same time. In both cases it was idle (I was literally out to
lunch). After today's crash, Jeff Schiller looked at it and found that the
message displayed on the console - "stray fp interrupt" indicates an
intermittent hardware error - he said the display controller board. In
looking at the log of error messages over the last 24 hours, he found this
same error happening at about 3:30 yesterday afternoon, at which time I was
at a meeting and had logged out.

Young Sul had been the person to bring the workstation back up when it had
crashed yesterday afternoon, and suggested that I might want to have my
system software installed. But Jeff says that it's a hardware problem.

I'm saving frequently just in case this happens again, but it seems that
there is a flaky component in here somewhere. Something should probably be
done about it, although at the moment it's still in service.

				Thanks - Naomi
