Hello Jerome,
The reason the workstation "Ippen" is getting floppy drive errors
is due to the problems with "dosread". If you do a "man dosread"
you will see;

Doswrite and dosdel still do not process subdirectories.
Dosread does not handle 16-bit FAT entries.

this is at the very end of the man page.
The dosread/write commands are not supported on the Athena
platforms.
What you want is the mformat command. On a VS3100
"add consult" and then "man mtools". The commands
in this tool kit should solve your problems. The
man page on this tool kit is not available on a DECStation
but you won't have problems with your VaxStation.
