Workstations W20-575-62 thru 65 are again operational.
After checking the integrity of the thinwire from the repeater to
the first workstation (W20-575-62), I was able to find very a minor short
in the cable. To remedy that situation, the bulkhead connector was replaced.
When the four-string workstations were reconnected, another problem surfaced;
the network link failed and disconnected. To the isolate the problem, I
disconnected the daisychain links and began gradually adding one workstation
at a time. In doing so, I was able to determine that the jumper thinwire
cable between WS W20-575-64 and 65 was the source of the problem. The cable
was replaced and all the workstations are back up and in use by students.
By the way, 2.5 hours of Transmission labor was employed in getting this
problem resolved. Please forward a requisition to Transmission to cover
the following charges:
2.5 hrs. Labor $125.00
(2) BNC Connectors 6.50
-------
$131.50
Thanks,
Errol Morrison

Subject: Machines Lost Contact With Main Server
Hi Telecom-
This is going into the 2nd week and we have not heard anything
from your group, could you send us some sign that you are aware
of this problem and it's being work'd on?

Theodore Punchev called from W20 and said that the machines W20-575-62
through 65 have lost contact with the main server.
These workstations are now back up. This has also happened last Tuesday, and
about a month or two ago. I believe the latter was given to telecom. I think
that maybe the ground was loose on the wall jack. This problem needs to be
re-investigated until a solution is found. I will now forward this info to
net-help. Please leave note active until we have a fix.
Thanks Much,

These 4 workstations in question are 5000/25's..
** Added info **
The wall jack feeding these 4 workstations is labeled E29, Board #2, Port #3.
Maybe the port is a little flakey.

Subject: failed activations
Workstations w20-575-63 and w20-575-64 failed to activate when I
tried to login to them.
- ----------------------------
I checked these WS and found w20-575-62 thru 65 down.
w20-575-62 and 64 said "unable to find account info due to network prob"
w20-575-63 and 65 said "WS fail to activate successfully"
At first, I was able to login to 62,65 and 64 but after I reconnected
the ethernet cable for 63(it was disconnected at first), all of them went down
I put up signs "athena operation notified" on them.
Meaw.
