there is a machine in the 6.001/6.004 cluster named m34-501-6 which
had its monitor powered down
I powered it up, it needed a reboot,
and it started working
BUT,
when it tried to register on the net, it said that
its internet address was already claimed
18.62.0.106
that machine is fingerable but seems wierd...

Physical checking
In room 34-501 there are 6 athena workstations all vax 2000
they are
m34-501-5, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12
their IP addresses are (respectively)
18.62.0.105, 107, 108, 110, 111, 112
The machine called m34-601-6 exists physically. Cannot boot up because its ip
address is used. The machine says m34-501-6: 18.62.0.106 on it and the rc.conf
file also has the same IP address.

My guess is that that machine is no longer in operation, but they have left the
harware there with no note so people have tried to reboot it several times. the
IP address must have been already returned and reassigned to the HP9000 which
exists in room 38-344 (ee cluster)
I am not sure if anything needs to be done about this...i would think that the
machine should either be removed or made so that people cannot try to reboot it
with the duplicate address cause it could cause a problem if dickson is ever off
the net.....
