problems with DEC 5000

I tried to log-on our machine in the lab on Sunday afternoon (October 4, 1992).
It is an Athena machine (DEC 5000 model 133). The hostname is TELAC.MIT.EDU.
I got a message : "WORKSTATION FAILED TO ACTIVATE SUCCESSFULLY ; PLEASE CONTACT THE ATHENA
OPERATION". Then, I tried to reboot the machine. The reboot went O.K, except that it takes
longer time for some reasons. Then I logged-on to my Athena account as usual as a check.
After working for about 3 minutes, I got messages like this :
"afs : lost contact with file server 18.71.0.10 in cell athena.mit.edu
afs : lost contact with file server 18.158.0.20 in cell athena.mit.edu
afs : lost contact with file server 18.158.0.22 in cell athena.mit.edu
afs : lost contact with file server 18.159.0.20 in cell athena.mit.edu
afs : lost contact with file server 18.146.0.11 in cell athena.mit.edu
afs : lost contact with file server 18.70.0.210 in cell sipb.mit.edu
afs : lost contact with file server 18.146.0.8 in cell athena.mit.edu
afs : lost contact with file server 18.80.0.2 in cell athena.mit.edu
afs : lost contact with file server 18.70.0.6 in cell athena.mit.edu
afs : lost contact with file server 18.71.0.10 in cell athena.mit.edu
connection timed out
giving up
...
..."
This happened three times in the past week. I am afraid there is something wrong with the
connection to our machine (in the network connection).
As of now, nobody can log-on our machine.
The best way to contact me is by e-mail, since my schedule is really tight in the morning
on Monday. Or, you can also contact me by phone at either numbers shown below.
