We have been experiencing problems with the cable at the rear of
astoria.mit.edu The cable is not connected properly and disconnects
randomly, causing intermittent problems with file servers. I asked for
repairs last week, both by phone and by e-mail, from the Hardware Hotline,
but have yet to see any progress. The Next House cluster consists of 7
VAXen, for use by 380 residents. As such, it is a high-volume cluster, with
100% use and a waiting list between the hours of 6 p.m. and 2 a.m. One
machine of seven not working or working intermittently only makes the
crowding worse... We would appreciate the repair of astoria, especially
since it seems to require, at most, the replacement of the rear cable.
