hi again
i ran some tests on several equally big files, and the error only occurred
while reading a particular file on a particular disk. i can reproduce this
reliably. furthermore, it does not happen immediately -- there is a delay
of a few seconds after the reading starts. i conclude that there is a bad
block on that disk located within that file, not very close to the start.
can someone come take a look?
