This Month's Accomplishments:

Finished Frame verification in NW12, new blocks mounted on S clips on MDF
Finished Frame verification in Bldg. 24, new blocks mounted on S clips on=
 MDF
E19 is almost completed with Frame Verification (90%)
=FC 20,000 telephone lines tested to the MDF
=FC Installed all new type 89 blocks with S clip to=
 continue=20
day-to-day moves/adds/changes & tracing of circuits and=20
telephone repairs
Update cable and pairs found within frame verification
Trace anomalies and update spreadsheet
Control all telephone moves, adds, and changes and trouble ticket, updating=
=20
cable and pair changes in logical order to provide a more accurate database.
Continue ICE9 database upgrade/reconciliation/updates
Continue programming of new 5ESS with line translations and configurations
Lucent produced =93magically=94 on MIT=92s request 2 AMIS terminals for the=
 other=20
switch locations. (no cost to MIT)
Powered up all SM=92s in E19
Powered up one SM in Bldg. 24 and NW12
Power up the CM and AM in E19
Increased the A/C throughput for the E19 switchroom
Continue compiling priority telephone numbers/circuit lists
Wired both 5ESS=92s on to the remote network control center for 7x24=
 monitoring.
Installed a black box for security access to the ICE 9 and 5ESS databases.

Next Month=92s plans:
Finish E19 frame verification
Start up the U-A to U-B card conversions project in E19
Reevaluate Plans for U-A to U-B card conversions in 24 and NW12 on cutover
Continue to wire the AM and CM
Completed the wiring of all SM=92s in E19
Take SM21 (in E19) the one SM2K on the classic will be brought offline for=
=20
hours and brought back up and be powered by the new 5ESS-2000 telephone=20
switch.
Continue to work on the integration he old classic switch and database and=
=20
new SM2K switch database
Continue preparation for adjunct systems (e.g. voicemail ACD, IVR, modem=20
pool, etc)
Move analog trunks over to new switch and report procedure for the night of=
=20
cutover
Begin test plans for accuracy
Record all of the 5ESS announcements on the new switch
Record all the ACD announcements on the new switch
Record all the announcements for Facilities on the new switch
Continue tracing all special software configurations, links and other misc.=
=20
equipment running off of the 5ESS
Review modem pool room in preparation of conversion
Move all trunks over to new DSX panel (off hours required)

Issues:
When powering up all equipment in the E19 switch location, the heat load=20
increased from 74 degrees to 85 degrees. After placing fans for=20
circulation, Bob Carr provided a solution that seems to be=20
working. Temporary duct work is now balancing the A/C and cooling the=20
hottest spots of equipment.

The =93S=94 clips for the mounting of the old telephone type 89 blocks and=
 the=20
new hardware have eliminated some stress in performing the daily moves,=20
adds, and changes.

Lucent missed on their inventory list the AMIS terminals (which are used at=
=20
each switch location for software translations and maintenance). Lucent=20
found a way via their budget to provide us with the two for the remote=
 sites.

The 5ESS Service Team made up of 6 staff members and one voucher employee=20
are displaying signs of stress and burnout. All individuals are working=20
110 % (full time) on the project as well as performing their day-to-day=20
responsibilities at 110%. The staff is being spread thin. The 5ESS=20
Service team tends to handle issues that have no home. Therefore, the team=
=20
will spend a significant amount of time on outside problem resolutions and=
=20
become more frustrated and stressed for the distraction. (Continue=20
working on this issue, one idea is to perform a social gathering outside of=
=20
the office to boost morale (11/8/01).

Team Dynamics:
The 5ESS core team and additional resources being utilized come from a=20
strong foundation (or that the super glue is working). Increased=20
workloads, longer hours and outside frustrations are increasing stress=20
levels for all in E19 (6th & 7th floors). The TNS team is made up of very=
=20
talented individuals. Their efforts, skills, and determination are making=
=20
this project appear to the outside world as simple though in reality it=92s=
=20
very complex.

Key Learnings:
"The only time success comes before work is in the dictionary."
Expect the unexpected
Develop a creative solution to deal with the unexpected on the fly.

Thanks,
Lu
