Project Name: Enterprise Printing Delivery Project
Team Members: Mary Ellen Bushnell, Rocklyn Clarke, Lynne Durland &
Dave Lambert
Report Date: 10/09/2001
Project Notebook: http://web.mit.edu/is/delivery/enterprint/
Accomplishments for the past period:
- Monitored the first full month of production work for Grad Admissions;
all is well
- Reviewed initial h/w sizing work and performed a sizing effort for
disk storage now that we have real test GL data; will require
significant increase in disk capacity on the IPM servers
- Finalized roles and responsibilities with ASST, DOST & EAST; documented
same in the Business Plan
- Continued testing General Ledger; printer speed in W91 okay, E19
printer performance was poor; we're hoping recent E19 network upgrades
will help
- Worked to resolve the last few bugs in IBM's customized code; PCR
consulting work is completed & ready for sign-off
- Continued to update and improve documentation for DOST, BLT & HD
- Worked with R3-Print & FSS to establish permanent SAP queue names
for GL production & test printing
- Reviewed IPM maintenance agreement and handed it off to EAST
- Worked with Lynne and Dan Cogswell to finalize automated LPR processing
- Worked with EAST to develop checklist for IPM transition
- Began email exchange with Miki re .htaccess mods to Apache
- Moved .htaccess mods task to EAST for further action
- Reviewed and approved usage reports from consultants
- Requested meeting with SSIT to introduce the new services
Goals for the coming period:
- Submit disk increase request to ASST; filesystem for storing
retained & ripped files must be increased before we can handle
monthly GL statements
- Test E19 3160 speed again now that the subnet has been upgraded;
we must resolve past performance problems before handling the
monthly GL statements
- Get s/w license issues and test server squared away
- Complete all documentation
- Move EP1 to IPM from Athena Print Services (carryover)
- Conduct EAST transition interview
- Set up application web pages for maintenance and sysadmin use
- Continue customer discussions wrt IPM rollout & network based
mainframe printing (ongoing)
Issues:
IBM focused on the server when sizing the h/w. Significantly more
disk space is required to handle the large GL files. Additionally,
performance of the E19 printer has been unacceptable. The E19 subnet
was recently upgraded. A third round of testing will occur this week.
These two items must be resolved to move forward with monthly GL printing.
Key learnings:
The team was challenged by the lack of clarify around the org fit for
day-to-day application activities. However, with the help of ASST, EAST,
DOST and a few directors, an approved set of responsibilities was agreed
upon. It would be great to see some guiding principles established around
these discussions to ease the transitional rollouts of other delivery
projects.
Team dynamics:
Good. Rocklyn is still anxious to complete his Printdel efforts in
order to focus on EAST. Mary Ellen spent two weeks vacationing in Italy.
