Introduction:
Various recent business changes necessitate modifications and enhancements
to SAPweb's requisitioning functions.
1. Facilities would like to make use of SAPweb so that they can eliminate
most of the paper requisition processing that they currently perform.
Facilities has not been able use the standard SAPweb create requisition
program because they have different requirements for plant and purchasing
group.
2. Multiple Enterprise Structure (MES) -- With the creation of new company
codes in SAP for Tech Review, Lincoln Lab, and other groups, we must
determine how to ensure that the correct company code is used when
requisitions are created.
The above two items are related in that our solution for MES might also
accommodate Facilities' needs. Nevertheless, it is important to create a
quick solution for Facilities.
Accomplishments Past Period:
Facilities:
- Finalized business requirements for Facilities
- Built fac_create, an entry into SAPweb's createreq for Facilities that
fills the requisition with the appropriate plant and purchasing group values
- Worked with Greg Billington, Facilities, and FSS to test fac_create in
SF2 and SF5. All looks good.
- FSS made modifications in SAP to accommodate Facilities' use of the Req.
Tracking Number field
- Created launch page http://web.mit.edu/sapweb/facilities
MES
- Met several times with various FSS and CAO staff to understand, document,
identify issues, and explore options for supporting multiple company codes
in SAP
- Procurement documented specific purchasing patterns and requirements for
Tech Review
Goals for Next Period:
Facilities:
- Transport SAP modification for Req. Tracking Number into production
- Move fac_create to culebra, the production SAPweb server
- Facilities will hold training sessions for staff next week
- Go live!
MES
- Continue design discussions with FSS, CAO, et. al.
- Come to agreement on design and technical requirements for work in SAP
and SAPweb
Issues:
- MES -- Internal Provider requisitions present a challenge. Internal
Providers are treated as Plants in SAP. Plants cannot be assigned to more
than one company code. Discussions continue on how to best address this
situation.
Other comments:
- Facilities -- because of Facilities' unique use of the Req Tracking
Number field and other internal procedures, they will still not be able to
use ECAT. Enabling Facilities to use ECAT is out of scope for this
project, but will likely be addressed in the future.
