Responsible research training, including training on "Use of Humans as
Experimental Subjects", is often required by government and private
agencies before proposals and grants can be approved. Currently, this
training is done through a book and test from the University of Rochester,
and people who pass the test are recorded in COEUS. OSP and COUHES
(Committee on Use of Humans as Experimental Subjects) is creating new
content by June, and would like it to be available on the web for people
who need to be trained by the end of summer.
This month's accomplishments (May 2001)
- Established timeline for content creation
- Contacted potential training software vendors and training hosters
- Reviewed sample training module to refine requirements
- Delayed larger training and certification discovery project with OSP &
EHS as sponsors to meet short term needs
Next Month's Plans (June 2001)
- Decide on whether to host revised training content inside MIT or outside
with a company like Netcasters or ElementK; narrow down options based on
that decision.
Issues
- Some trainees are grad and undergraduate students; is MIT's recording of
a student passing this training part of the student record? Julie Norris
(sponsor) is working on this question with the Dean's Office.
