General
------------
Continue to deliver training and consulting. Sheehan is participating in
the hiring process for the GIS Specialist in the
Libraries. Significant work on the project plan and first pass
budget. Machine upgrades made, additional team resources
identified. Progress slowed awaiting Solaris 7 testing and Libraries to
hire GIS specialist.
Accomplishments during March
-------------------------------------------------------------------
- Purchase Order cut to SUN Microsystems for new raid array disks.
- Continued discussions with Tom Grayson of DUSP on him replacing the lost
contractor, drafted workplan and list of deliverables.
- reviewed applications for GIS Specialist position in Libraries,
identifying finalists
- began site assessments for location of Spatial Data "Lab" in Rotch Library
- Dan Sheehan and Bill Fitzgerald reviewed possible spaces for GIS center
in the Rotch Library.
- Bill Fitzgerald contacted the new Libraries AO, and offered to work with
him on potential space/renovations work for the GIS Center.
- Continued to deliver training through CEE short course.
- Work continued on delivery plan.
- Dan Sheehan visited Harvard Map Collection and interviewed GIS specialist.
- Dan Sheehan attended Internet 2 Spring Conference; Geospatial Working
Group, joined steering committee.
Goals for April
---------------------
- determine/finalize roles on the delivery team.
- draft SLA for Server Ops team care of Arrowsmith; the big question here
will be determining who will be maintaining Oracle.
- load Oracle 8.1.7 on Arrowsmith.
- configure and test Apache web server on Arrowsmith.
- test ArcIMS on Athena, find security flaws.
- work toward completing delivery plan.
- interview finalists for Libraries' GIS Specialist position and make offer.
- finalize location and equipment needs for SDL in Rotch.
- add Esther Yanow to team, start project notebook.
Issues
--------
CEE class, hiring of Libraries person and waiting for disks has slowed
progress, hope to make up some time over April and May...
