project name: casetracker 1.5
project leader: barbara goguen, oliver thomas
report date:january 11, 2001
submitted by: barbara goguen
url: http://web.mit.edu/tooltime/notebook/

accomplishments past period:
- continued work on object model
- continued identifying workflow and business logic issues
- explored authentication solutions with Chuck Shubert
- discussed resource requirements and internal possibilities with Director
of Delivery
- began testing against Oracle 8.1.7 and identified some yet unresolved
problems
- met with alumni network services again who are now quite interested in
getting going with casetracker even though they share the need of other
groups for a non-certificate based access to records.
- continued conversations and got ATIC staff set up to use Casetracker for
non-private records
- took a quick look at an application server called WebLogic, and
identified some of the pros and cons of considering such a tool in our
project

goals for coming period:
- complete testing of oracle 8.1.7 and identify solutions to known problems
- upgrade production machine to oracle 8.1.7
- conduct design review and information sharing session
- move email and web enhancements from test into production
- decide whether casetracker should have a separate budget, and if so, what
that might look like. this is to followup on casetracker business plan
effort in october.

issues:
- leadership of 1.5 effort is significantly different from 1.0; 1.0
focused much more on user interface and functionality, while 1.5 focuses
almost entirely on infrastructure. project leadership and technical
project leadership have become separate roles needed on the team

key learning:
- things always take longer than anticipated

team dynamics:
- all is well, but will likely be losing nick howard from team over this
upcoming period
