Project Name: Enterprise Backup System
Project Leader: Grant Young
Report Date: January 5, 2001
URL: http://windsurf.mit.edu/ebs
Issues:
* Grant Young has taken over as project lead. The month of December has
mostly been spent regrouping after the departure of Rachel Sage.
* Due to the SAP data archiving project and the SAP upgrade's demand on the
project team's resources we've been mostly in maintenance mode with respect
to the existing installation in E40. We anticipate that we should be able
to resume progress in late January at least to scheduling hardware
reconfiguration in W91.
* Further progress is partly dependent on being able to make timely reports
to stakeholders with respect to backup job success. We still haven't found
a successful way to concisely report the success or failure of a particular
night's backups due to the Netbackup's distributed mechanisms for
reporting. Collating the information from the various sources is not
straightforward.
Accomplishments Past Period:
* Re-prioritized activities based on resource availability.
* Continued maintence and operation of the E40 systems.
Goals for the Coming Period
* Develop requirements and strategy for web-based reporting of backup job
sucess and failure.
* Determine requirements and dates for rollout of online db backups
in E40.
* Determine requirements for rollouts in W91. Schedule periods for
equipment reconfiguration.
Team Dynamics:
* Good.
