Accomplishments past period:
- Launched project team
- Conducted initial kick-off meeting on 5/24
- NS Messenger client configuration and migration testing completed
- Held second team meeting on 6/26 to review the results of this
testing and gain consensus on standard settings
- Significant progress (i.e. 90% complete) on IMAP introductory
documentation including IMAP vs. POP information (web based)
- Developed draft of new MIT @ Email web page which will include links
to new IMAP-related web pages as well as existing Eudora and MH web
pages
- Coordinated with Software Release Team on standard NS Messenger
settings for NS Version 4.73 release
- Met with Software Release Team re. plans for new releases of Eudora
(which is expected to support IMAP at least on the Mac platform)
Goals for the coming period:
- Perform check-in with Project Sponsors (Theresa and Dennis)
- Complete IMAP introductory documentation (web-based)
- Complete IMAP configuration documentation for NS Messenger (web-based)
- Complete documentation on Eudora to NS Messenger and MH to NS
Messenger email and address book migration (web-based)
- Continue discussions with Software Release Team re. future Eudora
releases and related IMAP support
- Follow-up with Barbara Goguen re. Help Desk email coordinator/focal
point
- Assess utility of Netscape support agreement for use by Help
Desk/Athena Consulting/Software Release Team re. NS Messenger technical
questions (this agreement has been priced at $ 3K); to be discussed with
relevant Team Leaders.
- Complete outline for planned IMAP Quick Start
Issues:
- Ensure that all of our IMAP-related documentation for the Mac and
Windows platform is likewise reflected in the Athena email web pages
- Continue to coordinate closely with the Software Release Team
- Plan for documenting Eudora IMAP configuration settings
- Continue to monitor any progress by QUALCOMM on IMAP/Kerberos problems
with Eudora Windows
- Need to nail down our focus on our proposed Quick Start; this seems to
be evolving from a more generic "Email @ MIT" theme to a an
IMAP-specific Quick Start.
Additional comments:
- Project progressing well so far. At this juncture, we are on target
for meeting our October 2nd implementation date.
- Our assigned Technical Writers (Phyllis and Esther) have approached
the project with enthusiasm. They are making excellent progress on the
documentation deliverables to date.
