1. Status/Announcements
     * Hiring status

     * 6 month Performance Appraisal check-in

       It's been 6 months since goals were set at performance reviews.
       Check in now for a sanity check and mid-course correction.

     * Project DB update

       If you're still seeing projects that are completed by default,
       you've bookmarked an old page, or your Project DB page has not been
       updated to the amended search we published. Email project-db for help.

     * Project Mgmt.Institute and local SIG news

2. 5YP Discussion:
  Lots of work.
  But we're approaching the process as a "successive approximations" process.

  The first approximation of the Mission has been written and will be
  circulated today.

  5 perspectives on IS were identified:
    Customer
    Finance
    Internal Process
    Technology
    OGIL (Organization Growth and Individual Learning)
  These perspectives were identified in the process of trying to group
  about 80 strategies that were on the list of proposed strategies.
  They provided a grouping that seemed to make sense.
  Going to try and boil it down to 10-25 strategies.

  Observation: The notion of perspectives seems good, but the particluar ones
  shown seem more like metrics than high level perspectives.

3. Team Staffing

A latest draft of the "IS Project Team Staffing Process" was handed out.

  Outcome: Discussion/ideas/issues to feed improvement
  Background:
    Role of the Competency Group and continuing to understand and refine
    the process of team staffing.

  Team Staffing categories
    Start-up -- forming
    Administration/management -

--
Allison:
  Wants to kick off work to improve organization growth and individual
  learning. The Team Staffing Process is one initiative at trying to
  improve the level of proficiency in IS at team-related activities.

Dani:
  Working with Institute HR/PD project to look at how teams form.
    So that they are effective.
    So that the team members are happy.
    To see if there are particular practices that improve this.
    To document those practices.
  Wants to interview IS folks as a focus group.

  Dani gave some initial key points for team practices from the literature
  that she will investigate in the IS context.
    Forming time:
       Relationship building
       committment & Expectation clarified
       Roles & Responsibilities clarified
       Ground rules established.

  Concern: Social dynamics of teams are good to study, but other factors
  relating to the project context may dominate the effectiveness of the team.
  I.E. It is urgent that we pursue sane resouce allocation as a way
  of making a team effective.
