Now, I'm not one to contradict what Steve says, but a couple of
documents I read recently about the MBONE indicate that the currently
released technology out there doesn't do very much in the way of
"pruning" at all; the distance-vector multicast routing protocol used
by mrouted supposedly only prunes the spanning tree at leaf networks.

This was in a document referenced from the "MBONE Home page";
unfortunately, I found it from the "www.media.org" server located at
Interop which is probably in pieces or in a shipping crate right now.
