I have to disagree.  The higher-ups in the NSFnet read the mainstream
press.  Evidently, this includes the Houston Chronicle.  Mr.
Abernathy's article had a very direct effect on some services at MIT,
much to the dismay of the people who maintained and used those
services.

Since naming the services would probably identify the people, I'm not
going to do that on this list.  But some of those people are reading,
and they can answer if they want.

I'm not going to get into a debate about whether or not certain uses
are appropriate for the Internet.  But we can't assume that just
because somebody writes for a paper in Houston, that it only affects
them.  Cambridge is a long way from Houston.
