It looked much more transparently like an investment to me, sort of
seed capital for a commercial venture, one which was going to immediately
turn around and take a big stake in exactly one project (one which
just happened to use IBM equipment and IBM engineering and with IBM
employees or IBM-funded people running the show).
Did ANS get their 501(c)3 non-profit status? I'd have hoped to see
some coverage of that, especially in light of their recent for-profit
spinoff. Given that there are semi-permeable barriers keeping the money and
the people on these various projects apart, it would be interesting
to see the accounting books to see just how they're juggling things.
