I disagree - the public don't need to know (and don't care) how
the technology is provided - just that it works and what it will
do for them.  As an example take the telephone system, or the TV
networks.  Does the `man in the street' know or care how they work ?

I agree that  `Sensationalism and inaccurate reporting' are not
always helpful.  However it's a big bad world and you have to live
with it as it is.  Look at the rubbish that gets written about a
whole range of subjects - if anything the Internet and USENET have
got away very lightly.
