Alan Weis as CEO of ANS is quoted in the September 26, 1990 Chronicle of
Higer Education as saying that ANS has plans to introduce one gigabit
service on the net within two years.

From my point of view that statement is pregnant with meaning. What does
it mean to those on this list? Also this is the ONLY such statement I have
seen in the press. Is this old knowledge or does this come as a surprise
 to some of you?

To introduce myself: I'm Gordon Cook and am just ending my 6th week as
project director of the United States Congress Office of Technology
Assessment Study on the NREN. Previous to this assignment I was the
science editor at the late John von Neumann National Supercomputer Center.
I am trained as a Russian historian and librarian and have worked as a
technical writer as well as a history prof.

Thanks to PSI.COM for adding me to this list.
