"In a case that presages some of the strife to come, a company supported
by the International Business Machines Corp. and MCI has been accused of
trying to hog the commercial marketing of the Internet. Advanced Networks
[sic] and Services of Elmsford New York maintains a portion of the
Internet for the National Science Foundation. William Schrader of the
competing Performance Systems International in Reston VA., charges ANS
with using its government connections and subsidy to cut rates and promote
itself as the sole official provider. ANS President Allan Weis calls the
accusations 'vicious nonsense.'" Newsweek story by John Scwartz Jan 13
