The T-3 work that is being done now is if I understand it correctly
independent of SMDS and independent of ATM over SONET. But TCP/IP can be
carried quite handily by either of these coming enhancements of the PSTN.
Will what is being learned now be easily transferrable to SMDS and ATM
applications? Is there any danger of 6 months or a year from now of the
current investment by the NSF in the DS-3 infrastructure being perceived
as obsolete?
