     As best I can remember file transfer 
     and email have always been within 2 or 3 per centage points of 
     each other in use varying from about 22 to 29%.
     

While it is true that the percentage of total traffic resulting from FTP is 
indeed growing, I suspect the first figures above are for byte counts and 
the second set of figures you cite are for packet count.
