 You are absolutely right!!!  the idea that fiber to the home is necessary 
 to benefit from the network is HOG WASH!  A few of the RBOCs are beginning 
 to deliver T-1 over co-ax for gosh sake!  The catch 22 is that it only 
 works if you are within 6,000 feet of a central office.  The distance they 
 say will expand rapidly.  And with ordinary modem hitting 38,400 baud one 
 can do some pretty niffty things.
