Ahh, Mr. Abernathy's missives arrive with all the elegance of a SCUD
missile. Inaccurate and of no journalistic significance, they are
only capable of inflaming public opinion and causing limited damage
	to undeserving populations.

I'm not out to cause trouble for anyone. Getting through this would in
fact lend hope that future trouble could be avoided.

Without bothering to correct him point by point, I'll just state
categorically that Joe hasn't managed to get a single correct
	statement in the paragraph below.

	>It took about two days for them to have a "major
	>porno incident" that ended with them shutting down
	>the news feed; and for now, students will not be
	>allowed their own accounts. Obviously, shutting down
	>usenet doesn't bar access to the lively material.

If you can offer additional facts, it would seem to be a disservice to
the discussion to withhold them. (In fact, additional detail has already
been offered, for those of you who do not subscribe to the COSN mailing
list. It's COSNDISC@bitnic.bitnet ).

Also, in response to Tom Grundner's concern for TENET's access
control capabilities, I would reassure him that we find Kerberos
authentication and AFS access control technologies to be both strong
and flexible. Frankly, anything less would be insufficient.

Right. The only problem with these technologies is that many network
administrators, at least at the lower level, either don't know they
exist, don't know how to implement them, or know about them and don't
have time to implement them.

Which isn't to say they might not be the answer. But the fact that the
problem occurred and still exists would seem to mitigate against this
as an explanation.

I certainly welcome a technical discussion on this subject, along with
the issue of how NNTP can be variously implemented.
