My article on who to call and what to ask for people seeking
to join the Internet appeared in the September 16, 1991 issue
of LAN Times, pages 45-46, under the title (not mine), "Linking
LANs Internationally with TCP/IP-based Internet."
Before anyone tries to get a copy, by whatever means, please note:
The article as run contains a number of errors, some incurred during
the editorial process (I didn't get a chance to see their edits until
just before it went to press, and was only able to get a few things
fixed), plus some changes due to the march of time (Karen Roubicek
leaving the NNSC, the NIC transition, etc.).
I have been updating and expanding the mss., and will make it
generally available soon after Interop 91 next week (I figure there
may be late-breaking news), by a) posting it to com-priv and
comp.protocols.tcp-ip, and b) making it available to/through the
NIC, NNSC, Merit, FARnet, NISC, and all other interested parties,
for redistribution. (I.e., please don't ask me for copies unless
other sources can't help.) I'm also going to see if there's a place
this should go in any of the IAB/RFC docs.
The 'sequel' article, "Steps to Joining the Internet," in the
premiere issue of RS/Magazine (from the same folks that do
Sun Expert) should be out Real Soon Now. (Call them at 617-739-7001.)
The proofs I saw were edited minimally. I hope to have at least a
copy of a fax of the roughs with me at Interop.
Thanks again to all who have been helping.
