Hmmm, instead of having them be completely abstract, we
might want to allow people to be affiliated with their
favorite sports team, opera company or other psuedo-random
association. Hmmm, "Peter Deutsch of the Mighty Ducks
Deutschs". Okay, so we need to work on this part...


Assuming we can work out the details, I would say I agree
with John's proposal as far as it goes, but...

To ensure adequate distributed maintenance of PIDs (or
whatever they're to be called) in the future, it would be
nice if a set of parents could be responsible for their
own "subdomain" and assign IDs for their off-spring. This
would allow the building of "Distributed Yellowpages Not
Allowing Simply Taking Individual Entries Stochastically" (DYNASTIES).

Of course, this clearly will leads to problems when we look
at the issue of recombination of PIDs (and there's sure to
be people who want to allow for this, given our experience
with the past several thousand years of human efforts in
this area) so I think we need to take this a step further
and let advances in the _other_ current sexy technology be
our guide.

Given the current rapid advances in mapping the human
genome, perhaps we can simply have everyone use their own
unique DNA pattern as their network ID? To save space, we
could look at some way so we wont have to have everyone
use the full 23 chromosomes and however many bazzilion
base pairs. In fact, we might get away with using suitable
diff's taken off a reference set of DNA. Anyone want to
speculate on the possibility of collisions and propose
resolution algorithms??? Of course, I'd be happy to offer
my own fairly cute set of chromosomes as the reference set...
(talk about immortality!  :-)
