The story I read mentioned that one of those college exam preparation firms
(Princeton Review) has registered the domain "kaplan.com" -- note that
"Kaplan" is the name of their major competitor.

How would people view an address such as sun.com or microsoft.com or
intel.com or apple.com ??? As a part of the named company.
That's the basic concept of a trademark infringement. Why is this any
different? Because Adam registered the name with internic personally? I
could just as easily register one as nbc.com or showetime.com or
nickelodeon.com or macys.com or sears.com ... none of that gives me
the right to infringe a trademark (if any), but what is worse is that
people might think those domains ARE associated with the company, and that
could cause irreprible harm to those companies.
