Has anyone seen or heard of him posting? If not, think that his
position keeps him from doing so? It would be hysterical if the new
medium for both generating and reporting news was shunned by
mainstream journalists because they wanted to avoid an overt
impression that they were actually part of the news than simply a
conveyor of news. Seems like they're much more comfortable in a
covert role.
I am a freelance writer and formerly a writer for a student
newspaper. While there, I did a story about local problems
(that would ethical ones) with networking on the University
of Michigan. Although I was willing to overtly defend myself
on the public bbs equivalents, because they contained dozens
of people who were impacted by my story, it was nearly
impossible to follow and defend against every flame. Imagine
what Mr. Lewis would face out here on the Internet with
thousands of angry academic flames each with its own thread.
He would spend several hours a day just giving you minimal
responses. It wouldn't be worth his time, whether or not
he is trying to remain out of the news or as a part of it. He
would use that time better writing other pieces and feeding
his family.
