Don't lose sight of this though ... if they hadn't used such an
annoying method to post their advertisement, there would still have
been a lot of commotion about it. It's just that they were so
in-your-face with how they did it that it kind of dominated the
discussion.
A commercial posting to most of the places where they put their
advertisement would still have drawn much discussion and reaction. We
see it over and over again. Two things that I think helped people to
be particularly annoyed ... (1) they seemed to know what they were
doing, and posting the way the did was not some simple mechanical
error; (2) the subject matter/phrasing of the advertisement had a
connotation of sleazy/predatory business practices for a great many
readers. (A third factor was, of course, that they were of the
unfavored Lawyer class, but you knew that already.)
