I've even heard someone speculate that _NSA_ planted the rumor that Ames
sold Clipper information. The rationale?
(1) Because it would make the CIA look bad. (NSA -- ahem -- isn't always
on the best terms with CIA.)
(2) Because it would give NSA a better reason to get $$$ to develop Son
of Clipper.
(Oh dear, now that I've posted this, they're probably going to start a file
on me.)
