I can add that in addition to all CIX members and ANS attending this
meeting, were the top four US IXCs, all (?) regional networks,
and two Federal agencies, thereby representing a nearly complete
assembly of US commercial and academic Internet providers, and 50% of
the feds. Other, separate, meetings must be held to provide insight
from users, politicos, and international constituents.
This meeting was critical to hold, well designed by the PI, organizers,
and workshop leader. The issues and concerns debated were serious.
There was no consensus. The workshop produced a recommendation;
however, it was not shared by many participants.
Not only did we all participate to have a voice, but to be certain that
all the issues are presented. We (all) anticipate the debate in the
community to continue, and expect the NSF to make an informed decision
which may or may not concur with the recommendations of Big Sky.
Essential to our continued mutual success is interconnectivity and
freedom of access. Progress on this front, in part represented by CIX
Assoc. activity, is proceeding after considerable effort and compromise.
