I've mentioned this before. When someone subscribes to a mailing list,
return a "welcome" mailgram that explains netequitte for the list.
I think this, along with a modest effort by the list participants,
makes for good, informative exchange.
 
Some lists are run particularly well (firewalls comes to mind); it
is not moderated, but the kernel of cluefull folks on the list do a
good job of keeping everyone on track. IMHO, they set a rather fine example
for the rest of us; they are tolerant of newbies, patient, and keep
the flames at bay. Nuf sed...
