Several people have sent NetMail in response to my first-ever
comment in com-priv (where I've been lurking for a couple of
months) inquiring about the K-12 Net Council of Coordinators
and the Consortium for School Networking . . . .

I regret that I cannot send personal responses to all of you
today (and I _especially_ regret having put my electronic foot
in my mouth in the first place) but anyway, since you asked,
 . . . fyi --

I am the librarian at a public high school in Portland, OR,
so my interest in NREN is two-fold: for my students and
faculty, and for my colleagues in school and public libraries.

I am also the System Operator of a FidoNet BBS [1:105/23 (503)
245-4961)], Moderator of the FidoNet LIBRARY echo, and a
founding member of K-12 Net.

The K-12 Network was created less than a year ago as a loose
collaboration among FidoNet System Operators who agreed to share
a number of "echoes" (conferences) related to curriculum, foreign
languages, special interests, and classroom-to-classroom projects.

The K-12 Network has since expanded to more than 150 systems
throughout North America, Australia, northern Europe and the USSR.
We think such dramatic growth demonstrates the existence of a
significant audience with a substantial need and demonstrable
enthusiasm for teleconnectivity.

The K-12 Net "echoes" are also available as USENET newsgroups
in the hierarchy k12.*
