I won't take up too much of com-priv's bandwidth with what I'm sure is a
side-issue for you folks, but AUP's in educational settings serve two
important functions: (1) setting boundaries and guidelines for community
behaviour, (2) educating users about the network they are using and the
tools they have access to. So I think that a "Purpose of the
Internet/NSFNet" statement is actually very necessary for a CoVis AUP,
since the NSFNet and the Internet are the environments in which the CoVis
users will ultimately conduct their business. The CoVis AUP is included in
the IETF draft as an example, not as a "clip and use" AUP.

Thanks for your time and input on the revision of the CoVis AUP that Lisa
posted. I'm not a reader of com-priv, so please reply to me with your
comments directly.

Yours,

Barry
