Two questions --
I've seen several of you mention on this list that Mosiac has a nice text
mode; how does one invoke it?
Second: In my local town of Valdosta, Georgia, the only way to have internet
access locally is to have connections (no pun intended) at the local U,
Valdosta State University. We have a thriving commercial BBS community, and
some feel it's time to look toward providing `commercial' network service to
those in the dialing zone.
I know that at first the venture could be easily supported by getting a
connection from the regional provider (Suranet) and also a nice workstation
or two. This would be sufficient to provide the general caliber of access
required at first, I'm sure (?). However, I am no businessman and would like
to know how some of you might approach this effort.
- Should I try to organize a group of local investors to start the business?
- Should I try to organize a group of local users to try to start a
non-profit 'donation' based operating?
In my puny knowledge, I'd lean toward the latter. I know that there is a lot of
nice unix software out there that I could not use if I charged for its usage.
However, I also know that supporting a machine, especially one with this much
traffic, would be rather expensive -- *especially* getting it off the ground.
I dunno. Maybe we should try to encourage some professional net provider to
move into town.
Any comments? Thanks.
