I dunno, I just think it's wrong to start suggesting harrassing
innocent bystanders at the company because someone there volunteered
to run a list. It's also not a big deal to have to wait a few days or
even several days to be dropped from a list. Or, if it is a big deal
for someone then perhaps they shouldn't subscribe to lists in the
first place, or at least not w/o some getting some guarantee in
advance that they'll get what they appear to feel they need. Perhaps
when you agree to join a volunteer-run list you also implicitly agree
to the limits of volunteer service?
I remember it once took me about four years to get off some list.
Basically, every Monday I would come in and send the list maintainer
the same canned, polite note asking to be dropped. Ok, that was
extreme, but I also don't remember suffering severely for the delay or
generating the desire to throttle someone.
My real point is, what are the expectations? And perhaps people are
just inventing them to suit their own needs? And maybe, just maybe,
some folks acting furious and angry about not being dropped really
have no basis for that kind of reaction other than they feel like they
oughta be outraged.
