AT&T fire in LA central office shuts down critical systems. AT&T was
forced into a re-route of calls due to a fire in a central office in LA.
Not only were carriers like MCI effected but, AT&T as well. The problems
lasted for approx. 10 hours. AT&T was able to re-route voice calls in
seconds, just as they advertise. I want to clarify something here. The
Fast - S . Software that the company talks about works quite well
however, you cannot re-route calls that were intended to be answered in
the area served by the Pac Bell switch. The software re-routes calls in
that area to other areas of the net. Network routing at AT&T is one of
the most complex things that network management handles. A call from
Atlanta to Ohio might be sent via LA for completion depending on network
loading and other factors. Its this type of call that would be helped in
the case of an outage. The same ole' stuff applies....down is down if you
can't get through to your local CO, that darn last mile stuff again.
At the Keyboard and looking for the extra fiber.....
