The Internet is a direct decendant of the ARPANET (R.I.P.) which was
built beginning in 1969 by DARPA. IMP #1 is still at UCLA, on display
or something. If you want to see what ARPANET was like about 7 or 8
years ago, go see MILNET (network 26).

So, yes, the Internet is over 20 years old.
