    one go.  Do you really mean to say the choice of who should write a story
    should be based on who will offend the least people?  Lots of good journalism
    offends lots of people, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be written.  It's
    hard to imagine how an investigative reporter could do his or her job well
    without offending somebody, sometime (if not many people, often).  If you
    don't like reading articles that offend people, stick to the trade rags.

no, i dont. i mean that the person writing this article needs to access alot
of information that joe will be denied because of his style. i imagine that
joe's piece coul dhave been written without the sensationalist bent to it,
and people would not be nearly as upset. there are problems with the way the
internet is run. i doubt anyone feels differently. on the other hand, 
looking for solutions seems more productive than pointing fingers. maybe if
his article had a sidebar with suggested things for teachers to do to 
deal with this problem, including not getting some news groups, and not
allowing telneting out of the school except from certain machines.
