Phrack Magazine published an article covering exactly this topic 5 days
ago. All of the problems you mention were documented in article P50-07
written by alhambra (alhambra@infonexus.com). The article along with source
code diffs (to exacerbate the problem and excite network admins into upgrading
from an insecure protocol) is all in there...
