This is just a short message to remind people to filter out
mailing lists (such as BUGTRAQ) when you use vacation messages.
They are very annoying and will get you removed from the list.
LISTSERV gives you the option to stop mail delivery while you
are away by setting your account options to NOMAIL and to turn
mail delivery back on by setting the options to MAIL.
E.g.
SET BUGTRAQ NOMAIL
SET BUGTRAQ MAIL
Also, if you are an admin I suggest you increase the maximum hop
limit of your MTA. With mailing lists, forwarded messages, corporate
mail systems and how big the Internet is now a days a hop limit of
under 20 is asking for trouble. I suggest you set it up at around 25.
Finally, when replying to messages only quote the parts of the message
your will be discussing or that are relevant. Quoting whole messages
and adding two lines at the top is not good etiquette. This is especially
troublesome for people reading the list via the digest as they have to
wade through dozens of messages most of which simply quote older messages.
