Everyone,

Linda, Suzanne, and I request that you please check with other
Public Service Librarians in your units to see if anyone else
would like to do OPAC training (either 1-hour Quick Start Demo
sessions or 1-hour Open Lab sessions) for the MIT Community.

We've put together the following preliminary schedule which we
can discuss at our next meeting on June 19:

QUICK START DEMO ONLY SESSION HANDS-ON OPEN LAB WITH TRAINER
(45 min. demo / 15 min. questions)	(1-hour open lab)

Location: TBA, but are trying to	Location: Libraries Training Room
get all sessions scheduled for in Bldg. 14.
Athena Visitors Center in E40.
If we can't get all in E40, we'll
find another room.

July	11 July	13
	17 19
	25 27

Aug. 7 Aug. 9
	22 24

Sept.	12 Sept.	14
	25 27

Oct. 2 Oct. 4
	10 12
	16 18
	24 26

We're thinking that if there's enough interest, we can look at doing
more sessions in November.

OPAC Trainers doing Quick Starts will be armed with the following:

A crib sheet of the Training Guide by Suzanne/Linda/Margo already in
existence with the instruction to follow this guide (except that
there won't be time for hands-on practice).

Hand-outs describing the Circulation Functions available to users.
Or, a Web URL if the Circ. Team is planning a page about this.
(SUZANNE will e-mail Anita about this.)

The Web URL for the "How to Use Barton" documentation that Margo
and Jennie are doing, the list of "Practice Questions", and the
"OPAC Challange" so that trainees can be directed to it to obtain
	a print-out. We'd like for opac-libbers to each contribute a
favorite question in order to expand the list of practice questions.

OPAC Trainers doing Open Labs won't necessarily need the Training Guide (but,
might want to have it anyway), but will need the other stuff.

For Publicity for MIT Community OPAC Training we discussed the following:

When we have rooms and times, we'll send the schedule to Carol
Zoppel so she can get announcements in the Calendar section of
Tech Talk for the appropriate weeks.

Posters of training dates/times/locations for all libraries. We
	thought Agnieszka might do this.

Smaller versions of the posters for Ref. and Circ. desks for all
	libraries. Also Agnieszka.

Smaller versions of the posters to all subject selectors for delivery
	to their departments. Agnieszka.

Announcement of the training dates/times/locations on the Libraries
	Home Page. Carter.

Announcements on the I/S Quick Start Guides when they begin producing
those again in the fall. (SUZANNE will find out whom to contact.)

Put the training schedule in the Advance Home Page, and link it all
	over the place.

A link from the MIT Home Page to the Advance Home Page. (LINDA to
talk to Suzanna Lisanti about getting this.)

We also discussed putting the training schedule in the message that
comes up with the dial-up version of the catalog. We aren't sure if
this would pull in outside users, but we thought that as with an
announcement in Tech Talk, we could just note that these training
sessions are open to the MIT Community only. We think that if we get
any calls from outside users, we can make a note of the amount of
interest, and think about doing more sessions over IAP that would be
open to people outside the MIT Community. We'd like opac-lib to
discuss the pros and cons of this at the June 19 meeting.
