Indexing of single/compound surnames in Advance

It seems to me that Advance is indexing surnames incorrectly.
Either the system is normalizing out dashes and spaces in compound
surnames or it is ignoring the indicator 2 in 100 and 700 tags.
Two examples of this to illustrate my point are:
a1=Bakker, R. and a1=Gomez, A.
Because of this single and compound names are interfiled in straight
alphabetical order. Perhaps this is not all that bad, but it certainly
is different than what we are used to.
