A Big Week Ahead...

A moment of truth has arrived. Friday we received the converted GMA
data from Geac.
Monday afternoon we will begin the process of downloading the data.
First we will be moving the current database into a secondary location
on emmy. This will allow us to have access to the database we have been
working with. It will not be available as we do this initial work. If
you try to login you will receive a "Sorry..." message
Once that is accomplished, we will start loading the GMA tape. When
that is finished Geac has to do some final work on the database.
While the GMA tape is downloading we will work to make the secondary (our
current test database) available. With some luck we will be able to
have it available late Monday afternoon.
When Geac has finished its work in the GMA database we will be doing a
full backup. Then we will switch access over to the GMA data. When and
who is switched will depend on the test coordinators. We will switch
the opac user over as soon as possible. It may be late Tuesday before
access to the GMA database is started.
The rest of the week will be VERY intensive testing. We hope that by
the end of the week we will know whether the data has been converted
well and how many obstacles will remain before we go live.
Next week on Monday the New Systems Steering Committee will meet with
the Testing Coordinators to make a formal decision to go live. While
folks are at ALA final preparations and debugging will go on. We plan
to restore the database to its original state eliminating any test data
before we go live. If all proceeds well we plan to go live on June 28.
