During the last week of June (probably either June 27 or June 28), the MIT
Libraries will be switching over to their new on-line catalogue, called GEAC
Advance. At that time, people who connect to the library from Athena, by
telnet, or via dial-up, will be connecting to the new system. Advance will
look very different from the current Barton, and will also have much greater
and more sophisticated searching capabilities.

A group of librarians is currently working on documentation and plans for
training on the new catalogue. The following will be true by the cut-over
date:

	- users with questions about the new catalogue should be directed to
use OWL. There will be a topic titled "on-line catalogue" or
		some variation thereof.

	- there will be documentation with instructions on using the new
system linked to the Libraries Web home page.

	- there will be documentation available elsewhere for downloading,
possibly via FTP and in the library locker.

More information will be sent out as details are finalized.
