Revised Schedule for Going Live

This week (Thursday) we should be receiving the GMA data back from Geac.
We still have quite a ways to go before we can go live with Advance but
it will be a milestone.
Depending on how the testing proceeds we are planning to load the Geac
GMA data next Tuesday, June 13 in the afternoon. There is some testing
going on that is dependent on data we have input into the system.
From June 13 for approximately a week or so we will be intensively
examining the migrated data and doing concentrated testing for bugs,
etc. When the testing coordinators are satisfied that the migrated data
is acceptable and the system is performing adequately the New Systems
Steering Committee will make a final decision to go live. We will then
re-load the GMA data and do the catch-up processing of circulation that
is required to go live. We are currently looking at a date of June 27
as the target date to be live on Advance.
Originally planned was an upgrade of emmy's operating system and the
database management software that Advance uses which would have taken
emmy down for three days (originally June 7-9). After some discussion
we determined that changing such a central piece of the system at this
late date would introduce the potential for many problems when we went
live. It also cut the amount of time available for testing and
training. Both are undesirable at this point. Thus, except for the
period while we are loading the GMA data from Geac emmy should be fully
available for training and testing until we go live. We will likely
reschedule the upgrade for next Christmas or so when we've had some
experience with the system and can have backup plans available.
