Group: the consensus of opinion is that people are in favor of Anne's
idea. So, it looks like during Softbackup we will:

-arrange for someone at Hayden Circ to go through the notices and
extract the hold notices
-send the hold notices to the appropriate library
-then, if someone at the local unit has time, they will check to see
if the item IS in the stacks. Item can be moved to hold shelf.
-hold notice can then be sent out.

Please make sure that this is implemented in your local unit.
Sounds like this will work. The text of Anne's original message is
below. Thanks to Anne for the idea. -AP

Regarding holds notices, if we send a hold notice out and the book is not
on the shelf, we may have some disgruntled patrons. It won't be a big
deal for someone at Hayden to go through the notices when we get them each
day, looking for hold notices. The hold notices could be sent to each
library, as appropriate, and if the item is indeed on the shelf, after a
library staff person finds it, the hold notice can be sent out. What do
you think?

I think we'll do this for our books, since we have the notices before they
go out anyway.
